Institutional Shareholder Services added a policy section to its website, www.issproxy.com. It provides more transparency to ISS' proxy-voting formulation and research process, and details ISS' policy board, research teams and 2006 voting policies. The content was added in response "to market requests for improved visibility into its research operations," according to an ISS statement.
"Behind ISS' policies and, ultimately, our vote recommendations is a set of pragmatic, well-reasoned principles for increasing corporate accountability and guiding institutional investors in their proxy voting decisions. There is no mystery around ISS' viewpoints on corporate governance matters, but the increased visibility provided by our new policy gateway gives institutional investors and market constituents a clearer view into the rationale behind our vote recommendations," Martha Carter, ISS director of U.S. research, said in a statement.
