Is your performance enhanced? If so, be careful of how you write your e-mail, or it may never reach the intended recipient.
So learned William Jacques, chief investment officer of Martingale Asset Management LP, Boston. Mr. Jacques innocently called a few clients recently to see if they had received e-mails about the firm's "enhanced alpha" strategy, a new equity product that goes 130% long and 30% short.
It turned out that some of their e-mail servers had treated Mr. Jacques' missive the same way it handled Viagra ads — sending them directly to the bulk mail folder.
Perhaps Martingale would have done better to name its investment strategy "longer lasting alpha."
