Venture capital funds invested €798.2 million ($933.7 million) in 224 European deals in the third quarter, a small increase from the €790.3 million in the second quarter and down from €848 million the year before, according to the European Venture Capital Report sponsored by Ernst & Young and Dow Jones VentureOne.
For the first three quarters of 2005, venture capital funds invested €2.55 billion in European companies, down from €2.75 billion for the same period in 2004.
Later-stage investments made up more than half - €340 million - of all venture capital dollars invested in Europe in the third quarter.
