Indiana Public Employees' Retirement System, Indianapolis, hired Barclays Global Investors to run $2.2 billion in a Russell 1000 index fund, said Bruce Fink, CIO of the $12 billion pension fund. The other finalists were Northern Trust, RhumbLine, State Street Global Advisors, Bank of New York and Merrill Lynch. Funding will come from an S&P 500 index fund that BGI also ran; system officials decided to drop that fund and move to the broader index.
