It's not uncommon for Dan Genter, chief executive officer of RNC Genter Capital, Los Angeles, to pilot his plane as much as 25 hours a month to visit clients nationwide and attend speaking engagements. But lately, Mr. Genter is tacking side trips onto these routine treks, helping shuttle hurricane victims and volunteers.
His first such trip was Sept. 6, flying eight nurses from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles to a COACH for Kids mobile medical clinic in Houston. Mr. Genter said he planned to shuttle more rescue workers affiliated with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and California Highway Patrol to Los Angeles from New Orleans on an upcoming trip.
"I'm trying to make sure whenever I go I'm taking people down with me, and taking people back to maximize the aircraft," he said, noting his plane can carry 11 people with a two-man crew.
He said he also would open his home the fall temporarily to some students from New Orleans' Tulane University.
Mr. Genter is a native of New Orleans.
