Yale University Endowment, New Haven, Conn., returned 22.3% for the year ended June 30, according to the university's website. The investment return brought the fund's total assets to $15.2 billion at fiscal year-end, compared with $12.7 billion as of June 30, 2004. The average annual return over the past 10 years was 17.4%.
The investment office referred questions to the university's office of public affairs. Tom Conroy, a university spokesman, said the university does not disclose what percentage of the endowment's assets are managed externally. He said the endowment's full annual report will be issued in November.
