MSCI Hedge Fund Composite index returned 1.7% in July and 2.9% for the first seven months of the year, based on about 60% of 2,200 funds reporting through Aug. 10, according to data released today by MSCI and Barra.
Of the group indexes, the MSCI Directional Trading index returned 0.3% in July and 0.4% for the seven months ended July 31; MSCI Relative Value index returned 1% and 0.7%; MSCI Security Selection index, 2.7% and 4.6%; MSCI Specialist Credit index, -0.3% and 2.8%; and the MSCI Multi-Process Group index, 2.7% and 4.7%.
By contrast, the MSCI World Equity index returned 3.5% in July and 2.8% for the seven months, while the MSCI World Sovereign Debt index lost 1% in July and lost 4.9% for the seven months.
