Mercer Investment Consulting joined the Social Investment Forum, reflecting a growing interest among U.S. institutional investors in integrating environmental, social and corporate governance factors into their investment processes, said spokesman Charles Salmans. Todd Larson, a spokesman for the forum, said Mercer is the first nationwide investment consultant to join the forum's roughly 500 members.
Jane Ambachtsheer, a Mercer veteran who has led the firm's socially responsible investment business practice since 2004, said Mercer will soon hire a third dedicated SRI consultant to work along with 12 other "local" investment consultants around the globe to "champion" SRI issues. That buildup reflects a trend of SRI concerns broadening from an initial subset of ethically driven organizations to large, mainstream investors. This year alone, Mercer has worked on five or six projects for such mainstream funds, she said.
