OAKLAND, Calif. — Oakland Police and Fire Retirement System hired New Star Institutional Managers and Hansberger Global Investors to run $37.5 million each in active international equities, said Yvonne Hudson, manager, retirement and benefits for the $582 million pension fund. Funding will likely come from a $82 million international equity portfolio run by State Street Global Advisors, said Teir Jenkins, revenue system accountant. He was not able to provide further information on the SSgA portfolio; it is passively managed, according to the Money Market Directory. Mr. Jenkins could not say if the SSgA account will be terminated.
The fund also hired active domestic small-cap equity managers NWQ Investment Management and Roxbury Capital to run $11 million each. NWQ will run a value-oriented portfolio, and Roxbury will run the assets in growth. Funding will come from trimming a $35 million U.S. large-cap index fund run by RhumbLine Advisers.
