Colorado Gov. Bill Owens has signed legislation that sets into motion the merger of the Denver Public Schools Retirement System with the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association, Denver. The bill, signed Tuesday, sets Jan. 1, 2007, as the merger date. Denver Public Schools' $2.5 billion in pension assets will be folded into the $31.8 billion Colorado PERA. "The Denver Public Schools is the only school district that is not part of the state pension plan," said John MacPherson, communications director for the Denver system.
