• Hedge fund industry assets grew about 150% over two years to more than $1 trillion as of year-end 2004, and hedge fund-of-funds assets grew at much slower pace over the same period, up 66.7% to $500 billion. Also, by way of clarification, Sol Waksman, president of The Barclay Group, stressed that industrywide hedge fund asset totals do not include hedge fund-of-funds assets in order to avoid doublecounting.
• The number of participants in 401(k) plans is 50.4 million. The number was inaccurately listed as number of employees covered by 401(k) plans in the data box accompanying the retirement crisis special report in the April 18 Pensions & Investments. In addition, the Society of Professional Administrators and Recordkeepers, Simsbury, Conn., should have been listed as a data source.
