SEC names new enforcement chief

Linda Chatman Thomsen was named director of the SEC's division of enforcement, replacing Stephen M. Cutler, who is returning to the private sector, confirmed John Nester, a commission spokesman. Ms. Thomsen had been the division's deputy director since January 2002; she joined the SEC in 1995 as assistant chief litigation counsel. Mr. Nester said no decision has been made on replacing her. Mr. Cutler, who became the enforcement division's chief in October 2001, announced his departure last month. His last day was Wednesday
