A California state bill that would allow the San Diego Unified Port District to set up an independent employee retirement system, separate from the $3.6 billion San Diego City Employees' Retirement System, has been tabled. The bill, introduced in February, was tabled by the Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday as part of a practice to hold back all legislation that would cost more than $150,000 to implement. The committee will hold hearings in May on whether to proceed with the legislation or kill it entirely.
