Frank Pfeffer will join M.D. Sass Investors Services starting May 1 as a senior vice president and director of institutional marketing, said Martin D. Sass, chairman and CEO. It is a new position. Mr. Pfeffer will focus on marketing the firm's alternatives strategies, including distressed securities, private equity and hedge funds, to corporate pension funds, endowments and foundations and large institutions. The hiring reflects the company's decision to ramp up its marketing operations, Mr. Sass said. Mr. Pfeffer left UBS Asset Management in November; he was the head of institutional business for the U.S. UBS spokesman Peter Casey said the position is being filled by Kai Sotorp, head of UBS Global Asset Management in the Americas, on an interim basis.
James Leman was named managing director of execution trading for the Americas at HSBC Securities (USA), confirmed Juanita Gutierrez, spokeswoman. It is a new position. He will be responsible for all program, algorithmic and direct market access trading on behalf of HSBC Securities' institutional and corporate clients. Mr. Leman was president of BRASS, SunGard's trade and order management unit. He was replaced by Patrick Lynch, the COO of BRASS, according to Brian Robins, spokesman.
