European venture capital funds have 10.5 billion euros ($13.5 billion) in uninvested capital from 90 funds raised in the six years ended Dec. 31, 2004, while U.S. funds have $53.6 billion in uninvested capital from 1,129 funds over the same period, according to a study by VentureOne. Each of the European funds analyzed was raised by fund managers with European headquarters. Among European funds, the study found that 30% of assets raised in 2001, 18% raised in 2000 and 13% raised in 1999 were uninvested. In contrast, about 33% of assets in U.S. funds raised in 2001, 20% raised in 2000 and 5.5% raised in 1999 remain unspent.
