Neil V. Toth, former CIO of the $64.5 billion Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, Columbus, died yesterday after battling cancer for several months. Mr. Toth was 43. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, and sons Colin and Mitchell.
Mr. Toth joined OPERS in 1990 and became CIO in 1999. Under his leadership as CIO, the plan's assets grew 41% over the last two years. He resigned his position in January and was temporarily replaced by Jennifer Hom, assistant investment officer of global bonds. Richard Baker, a plan spokesman, said OPERS is still searching for his permanent replacement.
"Neil's attention to the Investment Division's vision and values set a framework for collaboration, creativity and common goals within the investment group," said Laurie Hacking, Ohio PERS executive director.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. EST April 1 at Underwood Funeral Home, Marysville, Ohio. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. EST April 2 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Chuckery, Ohio, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. at the church and burial at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
