John Woerner was hired by American Express Financial Advisors as senior vice president, strategic planning. He replaces Kim Sharan, who will concentrate solely on her existing role as head of marketing. Mr. Woerner was previously with McKinsey & Co.; further information wasn't available. American Express Financial Advisors also hired Laura Gagnon as vice president, investor relations. It is a new position, part of the planned spinoff of the American Express Financial Advisors unit in the third quarter of 2005. Ms. Gagnon was vice president, finance and investor relations at The St. Paul Travelers Cos. Inc. No information on a replacement was available.
Michael J. Remigino was named U.S. national sales manager by Refco Alternative Investments. He will manage distribution of the firm's managed futures, hedge fund and structured product strategies through third-party partners, according to the firm's website. It is a new position. Mr. Remigino was managing director at Berkeley Capital Management, responsible for sales and marketing in the northeast region, said Katie Bassett, spokeswoman for Berkeley Capital. He was replaced by Shawn Daigel, Ms. Bassett said.
Stan Samples joined Chicago Consulting Actuaries as a managing director and principal at the start of 2005, said spokesman Daniel Cox. Mr. Samples opened the firm's seventh office, in Atlanta, and will lead CCA's efforts to build up its practice in the Southeast. Mr. Samples was with Mercer Human Resource Consulting for 26 years, most recently as senior retirement plan consultant, actuary and client manager, according to a CCA announcement. Mercer spokeswoman Stephanie Poe said she had no information on a replacement.
