Daniel Strumphler was named director of institutional sales at Northern Trust Global Investments, said Christine Harmon, spokeswoman. It is a new position. He will report to Robert Gray, director of U.S. institutional sales and consultant relations. Mr. Strumphler was senior vice president of institutional sales and marketing with ABN AMRO, according to a Northern Trust press release. Mr. Strumphler's duties have been assumed by other team members, according to an ABN AMRO official who declined to be identified.
Philip Paroian was hired as assistant investment officer for the $64.5 billion Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, Columbus, where he will oversee external managers handling public assets. It is a new position. Mr. Paroian will report to Jennifer Hom, the fund's acting CIO, who stepped in to replace Neil Toth last month, said OPERS spokesman Richard Baker. Prior to joining OPERS, Mr. Paroian was the director of public equities at University of Toronto Asset Management, which manages C$1.5 billion (US$1.25 billion) in endowment and pension assets. Felix Chee, COO of UTAM, said there are no plans to replace Mr. Paroian, whose responsibilities will be assumed by existing staff members.
Jason Thomas joined high-net-worth manager Kochis Fitz Wealth Management as CIO. He was a vice president of manager research at Wilshire Associates' Funds Management Group. Mr. Thomas was replaced and the firm is seeking additional executives for the group, according to Wilshire spokeswoman Kim Shepherd; she declined to name the replacement or give further details.
