The SEC on Thursday is expected to finalize a proposal that would require mutual fund company boards of directors to examine, on a fund-by-fund basis, the need for applying redemption fees to curtail market timing or rapid-fire trades. The rule will also require intermediaries such as record keepers to provide mutual funds, at their request, with tax identification information of mutual fund investors suspected of market timing.
