Patricia Dunn, former CEO of Barclays Global Investors, was named non-executive chairman of the board at Hewlett-Packard Co., Palo Alto, Calif., following the departure of Chairman and CEO Carleton S. "Carly" Fiorina, said Mike Moeller, HP spokesman. Ms. Dunn is also vice chairman at BGI, a title she has held since stepping down as CEO in mid-2002 for health reasons. She has been a Hewlett-Packard director since 1998.
Hewlett-Packard's board also named CFO Robert P. Wayman as interim CEO, Mr. Moeller said. Mr. Wayman will retain his responsibilities as CFO.
Ms. Dunn said in a conference call today that Hewlett-Packard's board will immediately begin a search for a new CEO. Mr. Moeller said the board is searching internally and externally, but has not disclosed a time frame for naming a new CEO. The board concluded that a change now was in the best interest of the company, she added.
"While I regret the board and I have differences about how to execute HP's strategy, I respect their decision," Ms. Fiorina said in a statement.
