Eric Colson was named managing director of Artisan Partners, said Andy Ziegler, Artisan CEO. It is a new position. He will be based in San Francisco, where Artisan has two offices, and will work with Mr. Ziegler on managing the firm's institutional business, investment strategies and investment team development, as well as general strategy. Mr. Colson is expected to join Artisan by the end of the first quarter, although there is "no hard date," Mr. Ziegler said. Mr. Colson was manager of Callan Associates' institutional consulting group; Artisan is a Callan client, said Ron Peyton, Callan president and CEO. Sue Crotty will replace Mr. Colson; she will work from the Morristown, N.J., office and report to Mr. Peyton. Ms. Crotty was senior vice president for the group. Artisan has $40 billion in assets under management.
