Rajiv Silgardo was named chief executive at Barclays Global Investors Canada. Mr. Silgardo, who will remain chief investment officer, replaces Gerry Rocchi, who was named director of Americas, iShares and intermediary investor ventures, according to the firm. BGI Canada has US$48 billion in assets under management.
Marina Akopian was named a senior investor on Baring Asset Management's emerging markets team and a back-up fund manager on the New Russia Fund. They are new positions. Ms. Akopian was investment manager for Eastern Europe and Russia at Rexiter Capital Management. Kenneth King, managing director of Rexiter, said the company is interviewing candidates to fill the vacancy.
Daniel Stern was named managing director and lead hedge fund researcher at alternatives consultant Cliffwater. Also, Gabrielle Zadra was named a private equity researcher. Both positions are new and were created because the firm is adding staff in specialty areas, said Barbara Smith, Cliffwater managing director. Mr. Stern was a director and senior member of the hedge fund-of-funds group at BlackRock; Brian Beads, a BlackRock spokesman, did not return calls requesting information about Mr. Stern's replacement by press time. Ms. Zadra was a research associate at Pathway Capital Management.
