Private equity investments overall returned 18.8% for the year ended June 30, and venture capital returned 7.4% for the same period, according to the Thomson Venture Economics/National Venture Capital Association Private Equity Performance index.
Later-stage venture capital had the best performance among the overall asset class for the year ended June 30, at 18.7%; in private equity, megabuyouts (at least $1 billion) returned 26.3%, followed by 19.3% for large buyouts (from $500 million to $1 billion).
Private equity returned -2% for the three years ended June 30, 5.7% for five years and 12.9% for 10 years. Venture capital returned -12.2% for the three years, 14.45% for five years and 26.7% for 10 years.
