Visitors to Fiduciary Counselors Inc. usually expect sober, legal advice about running pension funds. Recently, clients and many members of the Washington pension legal community were invited to don bright beaded necklaces and party with a panda sculpture that it had sponsored as part of a public art project.
Large, colorful pandas popped up in prominent locations in May as part of "PandaMania," sponsored by the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities. At the Fiduciary Counselors party, pension mavens said goodbye to the Mardi Gras panda the group sponsored, which will be auctioned, along with the other 149 panda sculptures, in a few weeks.
The proceeds will be used to fund art education programs and for grants to Washington-area artists.
"It was just something we thought was a good civic project to do," said Nell Hennessy, president.
