Robert Soros, deputy chairman of Soros Fund Management, will take over management of the $8.4 billion Quantum Endowment Fund, the firm's flagship hedge fund, said industry sources with knowledge of the company. Mr. Soros is son of company founder and chairman George Soros. Michael Vachon, spokesman for Soros Fund Management, declined to comment. The younger Mr. Soros assumes management of the fund from Jacob Goldfield, who reportedly left to start his own money management firm. Mr. Goldfield could not be reached to comment on his future plans.
Kevin Cuccias was named COO at Berkeley Capital Management, a new position. He will be responsible for the firm's compliance and overall operations and will report to James Landau, CEO. Mr. Cuccias was president of American Century Brokerage Services. Michael Raddie, vice president of direct operations for American Century, has taken over Mr. Cuccias' responsibilities, said Laura Kouri, American Century spokeswoman.
James Barrett, was named director of institutional sales and marketing at Bank of New York, a new position. Spokesman Kevin Heine said Mr. Barrett will oversee sales to midsized institutions, client service and consultant relations, although he could not say who was handling those responsibilities previously. Mr. Barrett held the same position at Northern Trust Global Investments, where he was replaced by Robert Gray, formerly director of U.S. institutional sales and consultant relations at Strong Capital Management, said Kurt Ross, an NTGI spokesman. Calls to Mr. Barrett and Stephanie Truog, Strong Capital spokeswoman, were not returned by press time.
