A federal appeals court in New Orleans backed a PBGC finding that Wilson N. Jones Memorial Hospital, Sherman, Texas, should pay more than $3 million in additional pension benefits and interest to some 800 participants of the hospital's terminated pension plan. The ruling also upheld a lower court ruling. The PBGC originally determined that the hospital had underpaid lump-sum payments to participants by using the wrong interest rate in calculations. The hospital disputed the PBGC's findings, and the agency sued to enforce its determination. The plan was terminated Dec. 31, 1995.
