An Illinois bill that would exempt public pension funds from disclosing venture capital and private equity portfolio information under Freedom of Information Act requests was transferred to the state Senate Rules Committee. The bill, HB 5252, already passed the House. It is the second attempt by the Legislature to enact such a law; an earlier bill was vetoed by Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich in an amendatory veto in February.
Penny Cate, active executive director, government affairs liaison, Illinois Venture Capital Association, said the bill could be passed by the Senate before it adjourns sometime in the next several weeks. IVCA supports the bill.
State Sen. Louis S. Viverito, chairman of the committee, couldn't be reached for comment by press time.
