Boeing Co., Chicago, made a $1 billion pension fund contribution in the first quarter, the company reported today in its 10-Q filing.
"We may contribute further to our plans in 2004, and are evaluating an additional discretionary contribution" of up to $1 billion in the near term, according to the 10-Q.
Boeing had $33.2 billion in pension assets and $39.9 billion in liabilities as of Sept. 30, the latest data available, according to its annual report. Officials didn't respond to requests for comment about why the contribution was required or how it will be invested.
