Delta Air Lines Inc., Atlanta, contributed $396 million to its pension plans in the first quarter and expects its remaining 2004 pension funding obligation to be $65 million, the company announced today. At the end of February, Delta announced it had already contributed $325 million to its Delta Retirement Plan in 2004 and expected to make no further contributions to that plan this year. Also at that time, the company expected to contribute $115 million to its Delta Pilots Retirement Plan by the end of 2004.
Delta recorded $6.8 billion in total pension plan assets and $5.6 billion in total liabilities as of Sept. 30, according to its 2003 annual report.
Delta officials did not return calls seeking further information by press time.
