University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, is searching for a director of foundation investments, whose duties include overseeing the assets of the University of Illinois Foundation, with assets of about $900 million. The director will also be the foundation's assistant treasurer. Douglas Beckman, who has held the position, will be promoted, effective May 1, to senior associate vice president for business and finance.
Key duties of the director, who provides strategic and tactical leadership for all foundation investment programs, include recommending asset allocation, evaluating external managers and consultants, and directing the foundation's investment policy committee agenda. Qualifications include at least five years of investment-related experience, particularly in endowment or pension asset management, including exposure to alternative-asset programs. Other qualifications include keen understanding of investment and financial issues and substantial experience in financial analysis.
