UAL Corp., Chicago, expects to contribute a total of $1.1 billion to its U.S.-based employee pension plans this year, the company said in its 2003 annual report. The parent of United Airlines estimates it will be required to contribute a total of $4.1 billion to the plans by the end of 2008, the report said; in its third-quarter report, UAL had expected a total required contribution of $4.8 billion by that date.
UAL contributed $6 million to the plans in 2003, according to the annual report. The plans had combined assets of about $7 billion on Dec. 31 and combined liabilities of $13 billion, the report said.
