Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Park, Ill., expects to contribute between $250 million and $300 million to its main domestic pension plan this year, according to its 10-K, filed with the SEC today. Over the next three to five years, company officials expect to contribute between $200 million and $400 million annually. In 2003, the company's contribution was $200 million, and in 2001, $106 million.
Abbott reported $3.02 billion in pension assets and $4.65 billion in projected benefit obligations, as of Dec. 31, according to its annual report. A company spokesman was unable to provide a breakout by deadline of how much the main plan has in assets and liabilities.
William H.S. Preece Jr., director-retirement funds, couldn't be reached for comment about how the money will be invested.
