A coalition of 275 faith-based pension funds, foundations and other organizations with combined assets of more than $110 billion called on Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Target Corp., Toys 'R' Us Inc. and 10 other large U.S. retailers and manufacturers to disclose "if and how they are prohibiting children and other youths from buying violent entertainment products in their stores," according to a joint statement by the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility and other groups.
In letters to the companies sent earlier this month, Gary Brouse, program director for the violence and militarism working group of the ICCR, said the coalition wants "to know if companies have policies to prohibit minors from purchasing these products, and what they are doing to ensure their employees understand and enforce these policies. We seek dialogue and action from corporations to prevent children's exposure to harmful violent media."
