Russell Investment Group, Tacoma, Wash., is interviewing candidates for the new position of hedge fund risk officer, but will still accept applications. The job will involve assessing the risks of hedge fund portfolios for internal fund-of-funds portfolio managers and senior management. The candidate also will be expected to assist in creating and managing risk analytics and reporting systems. The position also will oversee business control arrangements for hedge fund managers and brokers, lenders, administrators and third party marketers, as well as regulatory compliance.
The successful candidate must have between seven and 10 years of investment-related experience, including a minimum of two years in a risk management function in an investment management environment. The candidate must also have previous experience working with limited partnership structures, preferably within a due diligence group of the prime brokerage/capital introduction area of a broker/dealer. Knowledge of alternative investment strategies and managers, especially of hedge fund strategies, familiarity with ERISA regulations, and familiarity with tax and legal issues regarding limited partnerships and offshore corporate structures also are needed. Russell would prefer that candidates have an MBA and/or a CFA or CPA.
