Nikki Newton and Andrew Thinnes were promoted to new positions at Waddell & Reed Asset Management, Overland Park, Kan. Mr. Newton is senior vice president, director of defined benefits; he had been vice president, marketing and client service. Mr. Thinnes was named vice president of institutional marketing and client service, taking on some of Mr. Newton's former duties, spokeswoman Anne Goebel said. Brad Ross was named national sales manager for third-party marketing, a new role that fills Mr. Thinnes' former duties as managing director of sales and client services to retail clients. Clayton Johnston was also hired as vice president of institutional client services. Mr. Johnston was an institutional sales representative at Evergreen Timberland Investment Management, Charlotte, N.C., Ms. Goebel said.
