The number of defined contribution plan investment options grew again last year, with 81% of plans offering at least 10 options, up from 70% in 2001, according to a Profit Sharing/401(k) Council survey. Also, an average of 15.3 options were available per plan in 2002, up from 14.5 the year before.
The 46th annual survey of profit-sharing and 401(k) plans also showed that nearly 40% of plans with at least 5,000 participants offered from 11 to 15 investment options in 2002, up from 34% in 2001. Large plans - those with more than 5,000 participants - expanded their investment choices to an average of 17.7, up from 14 in 2001.
