Illinois Teachers' Retirement System, Springfield, returned an aggregate 5.23% for the year ended June 30, putting the $27 billion plan in the top 16% of large public plans, according to Callan Associates data. The system placed in the top quartile of large public plans for the one-, three-, five- and 10-year periods ended June 30, according to Callan. Over 10 years, Illinois Teachers' 9.01% annualized return was in the top decile of Callan's large-fund universe and exceeded the plan's long-term earnings assumption by 51 basis points.
The fund's top-performing asset classes for the year ended June 30 were fixed income, with a 10.8% return, and real estate, 9.5%.
