Ohio School Employees Retirement System, Columbus, is seeking an executive director. Hudepohl & Associates, Worthington, Ohio, an executive recruitment firm, will conduct a national search for the $7.2 billion pension fund. Thomas R. Anderson, the current executive director, is retiring Jan. 1. He has been executive director since 1979. During his tenure, the fund grew from $1 billion while annual benefit payments increased to $635 million from only $67 million.
The executive director has responsibility for an annual operating budget of $20 million and a staff of 120. Duties include initiating and implementing policies, procedures, and standards in all program areas of the system, including overseeing investments. Robert Cowman, director of investments, reports to the executive director.
Preference will be given to candidates with depth of experience in investments and legislative affairs. Qualifications include 10 years of related experience in a senior leadership position with a preference for candidates with a master's degree and public pension fund or other not-for-profit experience. Compensation includes a base salary targeted between $125,000 and $165,000.
