Illinois Teachers' Retirement System, Springfield, put MDL Capital Management and NorthPointe Capital on watch, said Jon Bauman, executive director. MDL manages $138 million in active domestic fixed-income, and NorthPointe manages $319 million in active domestic small-cap to midcap value equities. The $27.3 billion pension plan automatically places managers on watch when they underperform a set benchmark, and takes them off the list when performance improves.
Firms the fund kept on watch are: Capital Guardian Trust, which manages $468 million in active international equities, for performance; and Neuberger Berman, which manages $217 million in active domestic equities, for performance and organizational concerns. BlackRock, which managed $1.2 billion in active domestic fixed income, was removed from the list because performance improved.
