Charles Schwab & Co. officials today said suspicious packages initially thought to be bombs - found outside the firm's Carmel, Calif., brokerage office and outside Mr. Schwab's Pebble Beach, Calif., home - were a hoax. Using robots and X-ray cameras, Monterey County Sheriff's deputies on Monday found propane canisters inside the briefcases, which police then detonated. No one was injured. Police officials said they planned to review videotapes from surveillance cameras at both buildings. They have not yet identified suspects or a motive.
