Paul Kenny was appointed Ireland's first pensions ombudsman. He is currently head of retirement research at Mercer Human Resources Consulting, Dublin, and will take up his new job in mid-April. Mercer is searching for his successor, he said. The duties of his role of ombudsman still need to be defined, but Mr. Kenny said he will be responsible for investigating and ruling on complaints by pension plan members. He hopes his role will enable him to investigate complaints against a pension plan's consultants and managers as well as its internal administrators. Currently, the ombudsman for the U.K. pension industry is not allowed to investigate claims against plan consultants, he added.
