Wayne State University, Detroit, hired four managers for its $140 million endowment. They are: Chicago Capital and PIMCO, managing $20 million each in active domestic fixed income; Putnam, $15 million in active international equities; and Barclays Global Investors, $20 million in an S&P 500 index fund. Funding came from terminating three managers for performance and strategy reasons, and by reducing several portfolios, said Brady O'Connell, associate with consultant Ennis Knupp. He did not provide further details. Roger Kempa, assistant vice president and controller at Wayne State, confirmed the hirings.
