Food Employees Labor Relations Association, Landover, Md., may hire Cheiron as actuarial consultant, replacing Milliman USA, said Jimmy Lowthers, president of the United Food & Commercial Workers, Local 400, which participates in the $1.1 billion multi-employer pension fund. Trustees for the association will probably make their decision in mid-February, Mr. Lowthers said, adding that Milliman has not yet been notified.
Separately, the $60 million UFCW Unions & Participating Employers Pension Fund is also considering replacing Milliman with Cheiron, said Mr. Lowthers, who also is a trustee of the second pension fund.
Milliman has decided to impose limits on its liability for its consulting work, and Mr. Lowthers earlier said the funds wouldn't do business with actuaries under those circumstances.
Officials at Milliman did not return calls seeking comment by press time.
