Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, Columbus, launched a $4.5 billion internally managed domestic equity enhanced index portfolio, said Neil Toth, director of investments at the $48 billion system. It is expected to outperform its benchmark, the Russell 1000, by 35 to 50 basis points annually by holding all the stocks in the index but using computer models and internal analysis to pick individual stocks to overweight and underweight, Mr. Toth said.
Jim Wright, who joined OPERS earlier this year from Banc One Investment Advisors, will manage the portfolio.
Funding will come from terminating a $4.5 billion internally managed Russell 1000 fund, Mr. Toth said,
