Fred R. Buenrostro Jr. was named CEO of the $135 billion California Public Employees Retirement System, succeeding James Burton. Mr. Buenrostro is chief deputy director at Californias Department of Personnel Administration. He is experienced in state government and has been a representative for two state controllers, including Gray Davis, the current governor, and three state treasurers on the boards of both CalPERS and the $93 billion California State Teachers Retirement System, both based in Sacramento.
Mr. Buenrostro will become the seventh CEO at CalPERS. His start date and salary were not available by press time.
