Stocks fell today, with investors concerned over President Bush's United Nations speech on Iraq and Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan's cautious words about government spending. A report citing an increase in weekly jobless claims also dragged down the market. The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 202.03, or 2.35%, at 8,379.14; the S&P 500 fell 22.55, or 2.48%, ending at 886.90; and the Nasdaq composite closed down 35.47, or 2.7%, at 1,279.98.
