Stocks rose today as bargain hunters overcame early session jitters over the upcoming one-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and talk of possible U.S. action against Iraq. The Dow Jones industrial average closed up 92.18, or 1.09%, at 8,519.38; the S&P 500 rose 9.04, or 1.01%, closing at 902.96; and the Nasdaq composite was up 9.31, or 0.71%, to close at 1,304.61. All numbers are preliminary.
