There's an urban legend circulating around London concerning Stanley Fink, chief executive officer of hedge fund manager Man Group PLC, London.
According to newspaper reports, Mr. Fink used to swim to work from his house on Lake Zurich to his office two kilometers further down the lakeshore, just outside Zurich.
A keen skier and swimmer he might be, but Mr. Fink never has commuted in his swim trunks. He claims the story started when a reporter misunderstood a throw-away comment made in an interview.
But all that is to change this summer when Mr. Fink, colleagues and friends embark on a sponsored swim in, yes, Lake Zurich, and mirroring the route that his fabled aquatic commute might have taken. The total distance will be 3.6 kilometers (a bit more than two miles) from B"ch to the swimming area on the lake in Pfaffikon, where Man's offices are based.
Mr. Fink hopes to raise up to L30,000 ($46,000) for a number of children's charities in the United Kingdom and Switzerland and a women's charity in New York.
The Lake Zurich splashdown will take place Sept. 9 and despite the warm weather, swimmers will be allowed to participate in wetsuits
