University of Utah, Salt Lake City, invested 5% of its $300 million endowment in Commonfund’s real estate securities fund, its first real estate allocation, said Dave Heaps, investment manager. The fund also will invest 7% of assets in its first private equity allocation, possibly all or in part with Commonfund, which has been advising the endowment on the new allocations. Private equity managers will be selected within a few months, Mr. Heaps said.The new allocations are the result of an asset allocation study done in the spring. No further details were available.
