Enos T. Throop Jr. was named chief investment officer of the National Railroad Retirement Investment Trust, a new fund that will be based in Washington and have $20 billion to invest, according to John J. Salmon, counsel to the trust and partner with Dewey Ballantine. Mr. Throop, who will start Aug. 1, will determine internal staff needs, Mr. Salmon said. Mr. Throop is director of investments at the $ 7 billion United Mine Workers of America Health & Retirement Funds, Washington. Russell Reynolds assisted in the search.
John Adams, senior investment adviser at the UMWA fund, will be interim director of investments while a search for a permanent replacement is planned, said Charles Slavin, executive director of the fund.
